Diskfinch for Mac

What Diskfinch reads

Diskfinch scans only the folders and disks you choose. It reads file names, sizes, types and dates so it can show you what takes up space. To find duplicates it reads file contents and calculates checksums on your Mac. None of this leaves your computer.

What Diskfinch stores

Diskfinch saves a few things inside its own sandboxed app folder on your Mac: the results of your last scan, your settings and excluded folders, access permissions for the folders you selected, and a list of items you moved to the Trash so you can put them back. Removing Diskfinch from your Mac removes this data too.

Network

Diskfinch does not connect to any server run by us. The app has no network features of its own.

Purchases

Diskfinch Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details, Apple ID or name. The app only checks with Apple, on your Mac, whether Pro is unlocked.

Diskfinch for iPhone, iPad and Android

What the app reads

With your permission, the app reads your photo library: the size, type, date and source of each photo and video, and the images themselves so it can find duplicates and similar shots. All comparisons (checksums and image similarity) are calculated on your phone. If you give access to only some photos, the app only sees those. Nothing is uploaded.

What the app stores

The app keeps the results of your last scan, your settings, the items you chose to keep, and how much space you have freed with the free allowance. This stays on your device. On iPhone and iPad the free allowance is stored in the Keychain so it survives reinstalling. On Android, app data may be included in your own Google device backup if you have backups turned on; that backup is handled by Google and we cannot access it.

Deleting and compressing

Items you clear go to Recently Deleted (iPhone, iPad) or the Trash (Android), where you can restore them for 30 days. Your device always asks for confirmation first. Compressing a video happens on your device and replaces it with a smaller copy that keeps its date, location and favourite status.

Copy over Wi-Fi

When you choose to copy photos and videos to a computer, the app starts a small web server on your device. It is reachable only on your local Wi-Fi network, only with a random code in the address, and it stops when you leave that screen. Nothing passes through the internet or a server of ours. The first time, iPhone and iPad ask for permission to use the local network.

Network

Apart from copying over Wi-Fi and purchases, the app does not use the network. There is no server run by us.
